Another alternative is "Chants Mystiques:Hidden Treasures of a Living
Tradition" by Polygram Special Markets.
While this compilation is not strictly limited to early jewish music, most
of its tracks precede the 17th century. It includes the earliest extant
piece of jewish music: Mi al har chorev from the XII Century. The sound is
spectacular and the price $7.99 per CD (At Tower Records) is unbelievable.
I found it in the classical section.
