Re: KIKES! SOMEONE SPILLED THE BEANS!

This message was posted to other groups -- not all of them Jewish. The
problem with Usenet postings is that anyone can read or post into any
group. The only way to avoid having such things show up in this group
would be to close down the newsgroup "alt.music.jewish" and have *only*
the Jewish-Music mailing list. Then the mailing list would have to be
closed to postings from non-subscribers. Is it worth doing all that?

As soon as I found this message in my Inbox, I complained vociferously to
both my Internet access provider and Nysernet, the system hosting the
Jewish-Music mailing list. The people at my provider (The World in Boston)
replied almost immediately by forwarding a message from the network
manager at the site from which this post originated. He has already found
and disabled the account used for this post, and tightened security
procedures.

I also forwarded this message both to the Wiesenthal Center and the
American Jewish Congress -- and the message from the manager at The World
was sent to them also. Therefore, those Jewish organizations having Net
access which might be interested are also aware both of the message and of
the way in which it was handled. (I don't have an E-mail address for the
Anti-Defamation League; if anyone else has it, I would *really* appreciate
your passing it on.)

I suspect that this message was posted for the purpose of getting a lot of
people upset. Since the self-policing mechanisms of the Net (i.e., the
managers at organizations providing Net access) have taken care of the
matter, I suggest that we frustrate the designs of the poster by not
wasting any further bandwidth on the message. We can't do any more about
it than has already been done. All we can do by further discussion is to
raise our blood pressure, which will do none of us any good.

If the poster hates Jews, he undoubtedly felt that way even before he
first saw a computer. And the crude nature of the message makes it
unlikely that it will convert any philo-Semites -- or even neutrals -- to
anti-Semites. As upsetting as this message was, it's actually less
dangerous than lies dressed up as reasonable arguments -- something I have
seen on other, more academic lists.
