tons of bounced messages

Something broke at the listserver early Monday morning, resulting
in bad addresses bouncing "message bounced" messages at each other
and to the list. Under the normal course of events, bad addresses
don't accumulate, and any bounced mail comes only to me. In this
case, both happened, and everyone got bombarded.

There are some current problems with the listserver, but we have put
some additional things in place to try to prevent this particularly
unfortunate situation from recurring.
