Thanks to all who told me about Aaron Lebedeff's "Rumania, Rumania".
I spoke with Hanna Mlotek, the achivist at YIVO, who assures me that
it was indeed Lebedeff who was considered to be the composer of Rumania,
Rumania, and who version is considered definitive. So,.... now to try to
find it (on CD).
