Since the subject has come up, here's an offer for those of you doing
recordings. Save this for future reference.
As some of you know, in my spare time I do a lot of work with type, and
especially with Hebrew, Yiddish, and Russian. I also used to to cover type
for Fantasy Records and some local labels (before they took it in-house).
I have a standing local offer that if anyone is trying to get something
typeset and it includes at least one of those languages, and it's a fun
cause, I'll donate the typography, integrate any electronic art, and even
add color (or maintain color) through to 300 dpi b/w or color proofs and a
postscript download for the service bureau lino of your choice (which you
do pay for).
This service is free. There are limits: If I can't work with your design,
or if you need more than I can provide, or if your project doesn't strike
me as "fun," or if I just don't have time when you need my services, I
will withdraw as gracefully as I can. And you have to use at least a word
or two (preferably more) of Hebrew, Yiddish, Judesmo, or some other Jewish
language which uses the Hebrew alphabet. I figure, otherwise, you could do
it yourself and have more control over the whole thing. The last album for
which I did typography was a children's album called "Yadayim L'Ma'ala"
for which I did a complete text of songs in Hebrew and English, plus
guitar chords. That was a while ago. I'd love to do some more.
