[HANASHIR:4671] Re: Hanashir into the Next Century

Thank you, Adrian, and all my new chaverim!

I am SO enjoying this list! Yes, indeed, it IS friendly, loving, caring,
respectful and passionate. I've been on the list for a few weeks now and
have been learning so much. Thank you all!

I teach every Sunday in the University Synagogue sanctuary (in Los Angeles).
K-2 classes each come to me for 20-minute sessions. I also do a ten-minute
songleading session for "most" of the 4th-7th graders who have already sat
for 30 minutes doing tefillah. I say "most" because all the really good
singers are members of a children's choir called HaSharim who leave to
rehearse with the cantor at the beginning of this 40-minute combined
tefillah/songleading block. (The associate rabbi does tefillah.)

I also help grade levels with song selection and rehearsals when they are to
perform at family-centered services (which are held once a month). I
accompany each performing grade on guitar as I very informally conduct & cue
the kids.

In addition, I do songleading at our special, once-a-month Sunday "Family
Learning Day" events, which include students in grades 4 through 7 as well as
their parents. These events are mostly holiday centered.

I discovered Hanashir from an incredible, new Jewish songleading program
entitled "Sing a New Song" or "Shir Chadash," which is being designed and
facilitated by Dr. David Ackerman of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los
Angeles.

The recent posts on songleading for 4th-6th graders have been especially
helpful.

Todah rabah!! Thank you all!!
