I've had the most success with older grades with the addition of rhythm
instruments, such as a bongo drum.  Everyone who participated got a chance
to play the drum, but only if they sang enough to convince me they knew the
song.  I also took in a metallophone or xylophone and made up a simple
ostinato to go with such rounds as Ma Tovu.  Getting to play seemed to
motivate the kids to sing.
