I also was very heartened by Rabbi Yoffie's comments.

I support the idea of mixing the new with the old.  Someone on this list
described the old melodies as "comfort food for the soul" -- sorry, I forget
who, but it really made an impression on me.  I took a look around the
congregation and realized how much the Lewandowski and Sulzer etc. mean to
so much of the congregation.  You're quite right, Neil,  that the new
melodies should be introduced bit by bit.  The good ones which fit the
character of your congregation will catch on within three or four
repetitions.
