[HANASHIR:4627] Re: Rabbi Eric Yoffie's Sermon at the Biennial

I would like to agree with Adrian's comments, and add the following:

The music, in far too many cases, can't always speak for itself--not all ritual
committees and Rabbis are "tuned in" to the composers.

Therefore, we music educators must act as the catalyst and the messenger. Get
involved on your ritual committees and get chummy with your local Rabbi and
Cantor. Also, start to teach some of the music to the kids--if they like it,
you have an instant "in" at a family or youth service.

Careful, though, not to run full speed with this. Congregations with older
members (especially those rooted in "Classical Reform") will wonder where all
the Lewandowski and Kingsley went. Start with small tastes--and work it in
until you have the perfect blend.

My hope for the fostering of this music is that it will make its way to the
netherlands of the country, the Northwest and the Midwest have been a black
hole for performances lately!
