I have received an application package from the Cantorial certification 
program, a 5-year program sponsored by the association of cantors, and under 
the supervision of the Hebrew Union College.  As I understand it, the program 
involves 5 years of study, including voice lessons, study with a local or 
area cantor/cantors, extensive testing along the way, and a sponsoring 
congregation.  I understand that is intended to be a very rigorous program, 
since it receives the same weight as a 5-year fulltime course of study at the 
schools.
