[HANASHIR:4142] Re: Shabbat of Music

Your rabbi is referring to Shabbat Shirah (January 21-22, 2000), the Shabbat
on which we read from the Torah Shirat Hayam, the Song that Moshe sang as the
Israelites were crossing the Red Sea. It is traditional to do a special
musical program during services on that Shabbat.

Allow me to recommend Sermon in Song. Sermon in Song is a beautiful sermon
about the music of the synagogue. It is a sermon that the cantor or soloist
sings to the congregation. It was composed by Cantor Stephen Freedman and is
available for purchase (nominal fee) from the Cantors Assembly (212-678-8834
or
email: caoffice (at) jtsa(dot)edu).
