[HANASHIR:3980] Guild of Temple musicians

Friends--

Happy New Years to all--Good music and spirit to everyone for the coming year!

The discussion about certification is wonderful. I used to work at HUC in NY
as the Program Director there, and became quite friendly with Cantor Israel
Goldstein, the Dirctor of the School of Sacred Music. According to him, there
is a "din" to end the certification process altogether. I don't know where
things are politically with this because many people, apparently, don't like
process (Cantors, that is). I'm not saying I'm for it or against it. Merely
that it may not exist through HUC much longer. But...

We should all become members of the Guild of Temple Musicians. This is an
organization that exists for people who do exactly what most of us do. Serve
congregations/communities as music professionals in some capacity. The Guild
is recognized by the ACC and participates in and with them at the ACC annual
convention. This is a well-invested (no pun intended) $65.00. The last phone
# I had for them is: 219-982-7148. Check it out. It brings a lot of
credibility to us, and ourselves, to be affiliated with this music
organization.

Chag Sameach (in advance!)
