[HANASHIR:3344] Re: Salaam, S----m?

I'm so excited that everyone loved the song Salaam so much!! On the Sheva
recording, the lyrics are "Salaam salaam." As I understand it, when it hit
the American Jewish community, especially a synagogue in New York City where
Sheva has performed, the word "Shalom" was added on. The CD is awesome, you
should try to get ahold of it. I learned the song from some Israeli
friends of mine. Twice in my life, it was the bridge between secular
Israelis and religious. I had a crazy experience dancing at the Klezmir
festival in Tzfat last summer (long story), on my way back to the car the
song "Salaam" was blasting out onto the streets of downtown Tzfat and all of
the local young people were dancing like crazy and screaming out the words.
It was obviously an important song to them and their issues of peace "aleinu
v'al kol ha-olam, salaam salaam." A perfect mixture of Hebrew and Arabic.
My friend and I were invited into the dance circle and we all jammed
together in the street until the song was over. Sing on!!!

Love, Shira Kline
New York

>Yes, I, like David Weisz, was also wondering whether it was "Salaam,
>salaam" or "Salaam, shalom"... I've already taught "Salaam, salaam"
>because that was what was typed on the songsheet handed out by Susan
>Schanerman... so have I taught it wrong now? I hope not...this has
