Hi - my conversational Hebrew teacher thinks we should "get over it" in terms
of classical pronunciation in modern Hebrew songs, even those based on
classical texts. However, I always found it interesting that her tzeireh
(without the yud) and segol were pronounced very much the same, but it was
obvious from careful listening and observation I also noticed that she made
vowel sounds in a different place in her mouth and also that she couldn't
hear the difference the way we can, we westerners who are so used to
diphthongs.
So, we'll all just have to get along - right!!!
Shabbat Shalom
