Dear friends,  I thought I'd pass this bit of information along ...FYI.  (And 
by the way, Cantor Chomsky will be conducting the Cantor's Chorus at CAJE in 
Columbus this summer!)

The Musical Language of Prayer: 
does G-d care about nusach?

How does music enhance our prayers? What type of music is most appropriate 
and why? Does G-d care which music we chose? Please join Cantor Jack Chomsky 
to chat about "The Musical Language of Prayer" on April 27, Tuesday, at 7 pm 
Pacific Time (10 PM Eastern Time) in the #Jewish Chat Room.

Cantor Jack Chomsky has served at Congregation Tifereth Israel of Columbus, 
Ohio since 1982. He is a graduate of Brown University and the Cantors 
Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary. A baritone, he is known for his 
song interpretations in many languages. He has been involved in every facet 
of Jewish music-making throughout the Columbus Jewish community and has 
helped plan and implement many community musical and cultural events. He is 
co-founder and director of KOLEINU, the Jewish Community Chorus of Columbus. 
Cantor Chomsky is also involved in other communal activities, coordinates the 
Social Action programming of the Congregation and has been an active member 
of BREAD (Building Responsibility, Equality and Dignity), a local community 
action organization. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Jewish 
Family Services in Columbus.

Cantor Chomsky served as Editor of the Journal of Synagogue Music, the 
semi-annual national publication of the Cantors Assembly, from 1988 until 
1994. He has also been a member of the Assembly's Executive Council and is a 
respected leader in the organization. He was an early and active proponent of 
accepting women into the Cantors Assembly. (Women were accepted in the 
Cantors Assembly for the first time in 1990.) He is currently editing a 
special commemorative journal for the 50th Anniversary Convention of the 
Cantors Assembly, to be held in New York City in June 1998.

Cantor Chomsky served on the Music Advisory Panel of the Ohio Arts Council 
from 1989 to 1992, and chaired the Panel in 1991-92. He currently serves on a 
task force for the implementation of the Governor's Cultural Agreement with 
the State of Israel. He has been active in the commissioning and premiering 
of several musical works and has presented many concerts of Jewish music in 
Columbus, both as performer and producer. He has chaired two community-wide 
concerts featuring the music of many religious traditions, including Jewish, 
Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Baha'i and Moslem. The concerts featured choirs of 
over 150 singers.

He is married to Susan Gellman, a partner in the Columbus law firm Wolman, 
Genshaft & Gellman and constitutional scholar, and they are the parents of 
Benjamin and Addie.
