[HANASHIR:2669] Re:Yom ha'atzmaut prep

I'm curious as to how the rest of you are approaching Yom Ha'atzmaut this
year. It's a real interesting problem, as it goes to the heart of the
question, "How do we in the diaspora relate to Israel?" My experience has
been that it is a fairly difficult question for a number of communities to
solve. I have three gigs coming up around the state of Ohio, and I'm
attempting to provide an experience that is relevant to the consciousness of
the people here, yet connects us to Israel.

Obviously, the best situation is when the people of a particular community
prepare something as a group, songs, dances, stories etc, and share them on
Yom Ha'atzmaut. This year however, I'm a free lancer and not connected to a
particular shul, so I need to come in with a meaningful concept that I can
deliver in a one shot deal.

It's a challenge, though one which I relish, as it forces me to be creative.
As a result, I have a new tune in the works, and I'm continuing to search for
new ideas. If anyone on the list would like to share your views on the
subject, I'd be grateful. What songs are you working on for your
celebrations? and do you have some new ideas for how to celebrate Israel at
51?

Thanks....
