[HANASHIR:2614] Re: Songleader shortage

Welcome Lara! As a former NFTY-SC member, and a current NFTY-NE advisor, I
can tell you that, from my experience, there isn't another region in the
country that places such a high value on training and developing songleaders
as SEFTY. When I was in SC, I had the position of the "unofficial official
songleader." I, along with my best friend and partner in crime, lead every
event from the middle of my junior year on, and was compensated for it as
well. It wasn't until we graduated that SC established an official regional
songleader position, and not to sound too cocky, I think it was in large
part because we had done it for so long, no one knew how else to make a
controlled transition to other folks. So far, it has apprently worked well,
though I'm still concerned with the fact that there is no development
program in SC (a concern I expressed to the regional director and president
before the final vote on the creation of the position occurred).

In any case, SEFTY is truly blessed by the fact that there are so many
people interested in learning to songlead. In all honesty, SC has just as
many folks who are interested (again, not to be modest, I taught half of
them), but there is no current program to train and develop them, and I
think that many of them will lose interest unless such a program is
developed.

So that's my two bucks worth...
