one thing i do to make the more advanced singers happier is to talk to
them privately about service, how i appreciate their being here, and
contributing to the group as well as the shul.   how the choir is
benefits from their presence. i let them know that  i know their
situation, and i respect their decision to contribute .
the other thing is to always try to raise the level of the group in each
rehearsal- precision, pure vowels, phrasing, tone. Even beginners can
get something of that, and real musicians respect it. jonathan
