what kind of benchmarks can we use to determine a fee for soloists if each 
community has its own standards?  I have frequently inquired as to the price of 
the most sought after band band for a bar mitzvah or wedding, and asked them 
the per musician rate for the evening . this should give you a pretty good idea 
of what  musicians in general are making in your community. as for hebrew 
school salaries, the same formula can be sought by asking around at what 
musicians are charging for private lessons per half hour and double it.  now, 
that's not the little old lady who's been giving piano lessons for 50 years and 
wears loose powder and rouge. I'm talking about your community music school 
person.  In our community music school, $17.50 per half hour lesson is an 
average. (if it were a jewish music school, of course, they would have rounded 
it out to 18.00).  hope this gives you a base to move up from.  ellen
