[HANASHIR:2322] Re: What is a cantorial soloist worth?

I think you should get as much as the congregation is willing to pay you.
Considering that Sunday School and religious school teachers get anywhere from
$65 to $100 per 2-hour class, depending on location, surely your songleading
efforts are worth at least that much!

If you ask for $100 a time, and they laugh you out of there, you can always go
down in your fee! One synagogue was paying their soloist $2,000 a month as a
salary, with no limits on the hours or services needed. She was also teaching
Bar and Bat Mitzvah lessons and leading the choir.

If there isn't enough money in it, then stick to making those beautiful kippot
and talises you make! Or move to a better-paying metropolitan area , instead
of living out in the country! JUst kidding!

Good luck, Linda
