I think it's because you are just starting up.  It's just like
teaching classes for the first time.  The next year (season),
so many details just fall in place that took time to institute
the first year.  Eventually you can delegate music
copying/distribution and/or attendance and choir member list,
etc. etc.  to  volunteers.
