Well, Rick, while it may not be an immediate answer to your craving for a Hava
Nashira redux, it looks as though the Feb. 14 Kansas City "mini-CAJE" will
include a HN-esque session for us musical types. Perhaps you can catch the
Pony Express to K.C. for the event (since you weren't able to be here in Sept.
for Donny Maseng's performance.)
I'm meeting later this week with the local CAJE director to discuss the
particulars of the mini-CAJE mini-HN (I guess I should wear a mini-skirt and
Minnie Mouse ears and drive a Morris Mini Cooper to the meeting). While the
CAJE director was under the impression that it would take a "big name" like
Debbie or Jeff to bring this thing to fruition, I've suggested that it can
simply be a song- and technique-sharing workshop like the "evaluation"
sessions we do at HN. If everyone who participates brings a song or two to
teach, we'll easily fill a morning. (The mini-CAJE only lasts until noon, and
then there's usually some family-oriented program for the whole community in
the afternoon.)
So ? two questions: Does this in fact interest anyone outside the immediate
K.C. area enough to want to attend? And if so, is this the kind of session
you'd want to participate in, or do you have an alternative suggestion (short
of bringing in Debbie or Jeff, which unfortunately isn't in the budget) ?
While the mini-CAJE is primarily aimed at Jewish educators in and around K.C.
(and as far away as Topeka, Tulsa and Des Moines), the CAJE director said she
would welcome attendance by anyone else who could manage to get here. If you
are interested, send me your snail-mail address (in a private e-mail -- we
don't want to clutter the HN airwaves here), and I'll be sure you get the
information about the mini-CAJE. (I don't think there's a registration fee,
although I don't know the policy for "out-of-towners." You'd still have travel
expenses, of course ? but there is home hospitality to some extent, so that
might help cut costs.)
Rick, I know February is a long way off ? but it's a lot closer than next
June!
