Karen -- I, too, am mostly a "by ear" song learner. I can usually learn to
sing the melody and play the chords listening once or twice. But in recent
years I have had less access to CD's and more access to song books, so
I've had to challenge myself to do more of the melody learning by reading.
I confess that in so doing, I am sure I lose the true ruach of the song as it
was intended to be sung by the composer. I suppose my ideal way to
learn is to both review the written music while at the same time hearing it
performed.

Boy, do I feel like a dummy...I must be the only one who is totally lost and
can't even begin to read this code. And I thought I was doing well,
learning
to sight-read for the high holiday choir this year! :(
My methodology for learning "new" songs is to play a cd in my car on the
way
to work and back. Within a week, I have usually learned most of the
songs on
the cd. I guess I am mostly a learn/sing/write by ear kind of gal. Anybody
else like me out there?
