[HANASHIR:1506] Re: Sharing music online...

Chevre--

I am fascinated by this new dialog about learning/hearing music through our
PC's. I'm not really very in favor of the idea, and not just because I'm a
composer.

The very essence of what we are all about is to be teachers. It seems to me
that in order to be a good teacher, one must be a good student. I can't even
begin to count the hours I've spent( as I'm hope we all have) locked up in a
room alone playing my guitar and learning new songs. This was/is the
cornerstone of how we've devloped our repetoire over the years. I think that
technology is really great, but not at the expense of the learning process.

Maybe I'm being a bit old fashioned, and I certainly want to get my own music
out there as fast as possible, but the only way that I can really tell if a
song is a winner or not is to learn it thoroughly, then try it out on groups
and see if MY enthuiasm about the song rubs off on THEM. If I only learn it
fast enough too just get it out to the various groups, then not only am I
copping out on my job( to learn things well first, then teach them) but I
doing my craft a disservice as well.

My songleding teacher's ( Jeff Klepper and Loui Dobin) taught me to NEVER
teach a song that I didn't know inside out and side ways. When I met Debbie
many years later, she promoted the same learning curve.

Copyright and infringement issues aside, we HAVE TO spend our own time really
learning and studying the music we teach and thebn sharing what song are
working and not working. I agree with Adrian, that this is what this list is
all about in the first place.

In order for us to be excellent(not just good) teachers, we must first be
good/excellent learners and students, and not just listeners. Don't forget the
title is "songLEADER"!

There is no short-cut to good learning!!

Steve
