Hey everybody!  In response to the discussion about sharing melodies over
the listserv, I have a solution that might not be the easiest, but it is
guaranteed to work, whether you have the most high-tech computer system
with all the audio stuff and a quick modem, or an archaic piece of
machinery such as the one I'm using (4 Megs of RAM, 80 Megs of hard drive,
not enough to run any web browser efficiently)...  My solution is
tablature.  I know that this is not the way to hear how a song is
recorded, but if someone is trying to remember the melody to something, or
when trying to distinguish one verion of a song from another, tablature is
a simple way to send a melody over the computer.  Of course, this does
usually require a little bit of guitar-playing knowledge as well as
knowledge of how to read tablature (it's not difficult to read, though you
must make sure that you use a monospace font, otherwise the lines will be
disproportionate to one another)...

the OLGA mirror sites, where there is a wealth of tablature that can be
downloaded (including a bit of Jewish music, I believe), as well as a text
file on how to read tablature.
