In regards to Simchat Torah. I felt that our shool had it perfect. 4
guitarists, a flute and a number of singers, not above anyone but near the
front of the synagogue. Everybody sang and everybody danced, children and
adults integrated.
Felt really great about it then spoke to Kenny Green who instantly bragged
that his shools celebrations were better. 'No' I said ours were. Well they
had a member of the klezmer conservatory band and a member of the
klezmatics, they did 25 hakafot and I new that we couldn't compete. Partly
because of the instrumentalists but also there is something about English
Reform that seems to dictate that you can have a nice time, sing some
songs, do some dances, but you stop things before they get too ecstatic
because you do have to keep your eye on the clock and keep everything in
the brain. Shame.

Maybe I'll have to become a Hassid.
