Hmmm, good Shabbat opening and closing songs.
I like more of the Shabbatie songs to open with. Examples are Mah Yafeh
Hayom, Yom Zeh L'Yisrael, you could start with L'cha Dodi, Shabbat Shalom,
Shalom Aleichem. I've found that shorter songs are better openers. If you
wanted to do others, Hiney Mah Tov, Heiveinu Shalom Aleichem, Im Tirtzu if the
time is right, Dodi Li, Teyn Lo Mishelo and others.
As for closing songs, songs about weekly portions are nice. L'chi Lach,
Miriam, Nefesh Achat. I like longer sons here. I've done stuff like Circle
Game and other more folk songs. Mizmor Shir is always nice, as is Adon Olam
and Eyn Keloheinu.
Well, that's my $.02
