Advice from my voice coach ("hoarse sense"):
Zinc lozenges help. (As does echinacea.)
avoid things that take water away from the chords: e.g. coffee, alcohol,
antihistamines. (But who can avoid coffee?)
drink lots of water.
Suck life-savers, not medicated cough drops.
For every day of laryngitis, you need 2 days without using your voice
to recover (a goal if not an actual possibility.)
Warm your voice up (like athletic stretching.) Don't just jump in cold
and start singing. Loosen up.
Warm down afterwards.
If it hurts, stop doing it.
