Re: [Fwd: Mini HNs May Be a FABULOUS idea]

I agree with much of what Adrian said. The original idea of HN -- and the
unique atmosphere it always has -- could be diluted by smaller local meetings
of a similar nature. But I feel that songleading is catching on big-time as a
way to reach otherwise uncommitted and unaffiliated Jews. Therefore, ANY
ruach is better than NONE.

I can see that there is a "machloket" (disagreement) here between those who
feel that HN should only be run by "experts" and "professionals" (kids, don't
try this at home!)

The pro's have some things to teach us that we cannot get elsewhere (does
anyone here want to try to do better than Debbie's Mi Shebeirach performed by
the original artist?). And for many of the attendees, seeing how Jeff or
Debbie or Ellen or Rosalie et al. conduct services, was a good experience for
all of us... I know I can use pieces of each of those services in my own
synagogues.

On the other hand -- what Rich and others have said has much value -- there is
no reason why we can't meet regionally to create our own "lay" sessions.
However, I like Linda Salvay's idea best, and we are implementing it here in
Milwaukee too.
As Linda suggested, we will include music curricula and shironim (songbooks)
in as many of our Kallot and teacher training meetings as possible.

Just my two cents!

Brian

Y'all have a wonderful Shabbos, although it won't be the same without all of
you!
