I have been in a church from time to time. I was at a funeral once. Another
time, I went into St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. What a beautiful place!
As for interfaith opportunities, for many of us living in smaller cities,
there will be times when we will visit each other's houses of worship.
But I do not like the idea of an interfaith service. It implies that we
believe the same things as Christians. And many of us do believe some of the
same things, but we are NOT Christian, and they are not Jewish. Sharing each
other's prayers and hymns in a services setting would be plain WRONG, in my
opinion. However, singing some of our prayers in front of each other, for
educational purposes, would be marvelous and a great way to teach others about
our faith.
Singing in a church service? OY VEY! When I was young, I sang in a large
choir in New York, doing the Messiah at Christmas time. It was beautiful
music, but it is WRONG for a Jew to be singing it. I had no idea of the
meaning of the music back then, only that it was beautiful, but I now know
that it was wrong to do. My Neshamah (Jewish soul) gained nothing from that
experience.
I am NOT condemning those of you who regularly or occasionally sing in a
church for money. The above is just my opinion. I, for one, however would
NOT sing in a church service no matter how much they paid me. Uh, well, maybe
if they paid me enough!!! Ha ha ha
Have a good week, friends!
