Rachelle, thanks for mentioning that copyrighted materials should be purchased
(or copied with the composers permission) rather than just
photocopied....another of my pet peeves. The few publishers and distributors
of Jewish music (both recorded and printed) will soon go out of business if
copying continues at the rate it is going. It is against both Jewish and
American (and probably Canadian) law!
While most of the songwriters I know (myself included) are anxious to have
their music "circulated" - that is, sung around the country by lots of
people,--one must ask their permission before duplicating and/or distributing
music, even for educational purposes.
CDs, tapes and songbooks are expensive to produce and in most cases the artist
has paid for it out of pocket. Please keep this in mind when you think about
making bootleg copies of music for your friends and colleagues... thanks
(Rachelle, obviously this is not addressed to you because you certainly are
already doing the right thing)
