Judah, thanks for your excellent write-up. I can see why you are at Harvard!

I had a general question, though.  When groups like Beatachon and Pizmon, et
al., put out this kind of music, is it intended for use in synagogue services,
or is it primarily geared for personal enjoyment or group singing situations?

My concern is that some listeners believe that any of these should be readily
adapted for services, and throw out the "old" melodies.

Not that this would be BAD! -- to quote Seinfeld.
