Re: HANASHIR digest 153

This is kind of off of the subject of the posts that have been coming through
on this mailing list lately, but NFTY national elections are coming up for the
1998-1999 board and I was wondering your opinion of having not only a NFTY
president, programming vice president, religious and cultural vp, and social
action vice president but adding a NFTY songleader too (or maybe two). The
reason I think this is a good idea: NFTY is a youth led organization. While
I do realize that some of the people who read this newsletter do songlead for
NFTY regions, in my region, we have youth members as songleaders. It is a
general board position. I get calls from all over my region to help with
music for shul ins and other music related questions that I doubt the
Religious and Cultural Vice president would know. I think NFTYites would feel
more comfortable and more involved by having their peers lead them in song and
prayer. I asked a friend about this who was in my songleading class at Kutz
camp and he said that he thinks the adults are more qualified and he knows
that his rabbi is a much better songleader than he is, but I would think that
the person or people who recieve the position of NFTY songleader would be
extremely qualified as a musician, songleader and leader in general. What do
you think?
