Wow... my first post to the list, after lurking for over a year.
(I have an excuse, I guess.... I was in law school. And then
studying for the Bar. But now, I'm DONE... and yes, I passed
<insert sigh of relief here>.)
So, I have a question. I'd like to know the geographic origin
of D'ror Yiqra... the melody, that is. I don't know how to represent
a melody in ASCII and I don't know if there's more than one
tune to this text... but I presume that the one I'm thinking
of is the one *most* people think of when they hear the title.
It's been made into an Israeli dance, and I'm sure it's been
recorded a bazillion times... the 1970s-era Camp Swig album,
_Tov Lanu Lashir_ is one such. I'm also assuming it's from
the Mesorah (i.e., it's old, "traditional", and author of melody
unknown) though I may be wrong on all points. The question is:
(if I'm right), _whose_ Mesorah?
So is there a D'ror Yiqra maven who can help me out on this?
Thanks and Chag Shanah Chilonit Chadasha Sameach,
Joel Siegel
