Here's Rabbi Blackmore's quote from that chapel sermon last Monday re: his
reply to the
Lutheran Church. The Bim Bam version was substantially edited due to space
imitations.
"Dear Reverend R. Thank you for your kind invitation to join your
congregation in spiritual exploration and worship. However, I find myself
unable to become a member of your church for two reasons. First, as a
rabbi, I have a congregation of my own which will be taking up all of my time
and resources outside of my position at concordia. Second, since I got my
doctorate at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, which is a Methodist
institution, I think that in the Christian spectrum I would probably best be
described as a Methodist Rabbi. I'm not sure how well the traditions of
Methodism and Lutheranism would mesh at your place. As a person of the
Jewish faith, I am approaching all this as an outsider, so please excuse my
ignorance on such matters. Should you wish to get together for tea and
discussion at any time, just give me a jingle at Temple Beth El."
Shavua Tov,
Adrian
