Ruti was written by Haim Hefer, and set to a folk tune (which to my ears 
sounds very Russian; not surprising for songs of that era in Israel).  It's 
quite 
beautiful.

It is included in Sing Along with Effi Netzer, Volume 2 (page 161).  I'm sure 
it's in other anthologies as well.

If you have more information about the story behind the song (if in fact this 
is the one), I'd love to hear it.
