I have discovered that many of the children I have taught in conservative 
afternoon religious schools have been given the misperception that we simply 
skip the reading of the Baruch shem... line all together since they never hear 
it said aloud.  Consequently, many of these children had difficulty reading the 
words of the unfamiliar text.  I have chosen to sing these words aloud during 
my class or junior cong. anyway!  I certainly explain to the children the 
reason why we read these words silently when we participate in the main 
synagogue services and why I have chosen to chant the Baruch Shem... aloud.
