[HANASHIR:17030] RE: Music of Richard Silverman

Chaverim:

I would like to take this opportunity to commend Randee for understanding
the spirit and intention of the recently propagated "netiquette" rules for
the list. As some others have done, even after the netiquette guidelines
were posted Randee could have posted a simple "commercial style"
announcement. She chose, instead, to truly observe the spirit of this
community and present us with information written, as requested, in the form
of a personal message.

We all owe a debt to Randee, Joel, Velvel and others who are out there
trying to scratch together a living selling the CDs we make and the songs we
write. If Randee, whose commercial interest in promoting the products her
company sells is necessary for her parnassa, can take the time to present
her promotion in such a personal manner, then surely we all can.

And thank you also for carrying this new songbook, and thanks to Cantor
Bruce Benson for working with Cantor Silverman to get so many of Silverman's
wonderful songs transcribed. And for making it possible for people to find
and purchase sheet music for individual songs by Debbie Friedman and others.

Without wishing to slight any of the others involved in Randee's business,
about which the same could be said, I'll close this message by using
Randee's own words about the Silverman songbook to describe the service that
Randee and Soundswrite provide: "A Wonderful Resource!!!"

Thank you, Randee.

Subject: [HANASHIR:17028] Music of Richard Silverman

Hello All -

In catching up with past postings from this list I see people asking
frequently for music from biblical texts, holocaust, social action, life
cycle themes, etc. and I wondered if you know about the music of Cantor
Richard Silverman, who has written in all these areas, and more. When I
first started collecting music whose texts came from the bible I contacted
Richard and was amazed at his HUGE repertoire of original, singable
melodies. He was teaching songleaders at Camp Swig years ago, making sure
that they had useable material. You all know his Eitz Chayim-Tree of Life
and Mi Chamocha (ya ba bim bam) classics. It has been difficult to get hold
of sheet music for his music - recently Cantor Bruce Benson helped Richard
bring out a songbook of 62 of his compositions with melody line and guitar
chords, keyboard accompaniment for nine of them, and 14 pieces for choir or
duets. If anyone is interested you can find out more about this new
songbook at: http://soundswrite.com/swstore8b.html#silverman A wonderful
resource!!!

Happy Purim!
