[HANASHIR:16813] RE: purim songs

Sherry:

I'd recommend you offer the list a little context. "Most popular" can be
very different based on the setting. Kids in traditional day schools can
have very different favorites from kids in a Reform supplemental school
(although not necessarily, as good songleaders and music educators insure
their students get a well-rounded look at Jewish music. What's "popular" in
a Conservative shul might not be the same as what's "popular" in the
Reconstructionist congregation down the street.

And popularity is fleeting. I doubt that "Once There Was A Wicked, Wicked
Man" is as popular these days as it once was.

Also, don't assume people understand your particular settings lingo. We know
mishpacha means family or clan, but when you use it as a pseudo-noun people
might not know what you mean. It is a family program? Again, context will
help people give you better answers.

There are a wealth of Purim songs, traditional and contemporary. whatever
your setting, I'd recommend a mixture--but don't overemphasize the
contemporary at the expense of the traditional.

As a reference for more traditional songs, I would recommend Tara
Publications "Jewish Holidays in Song."

Subject: [HANASHIR:16810] purim songs

Hi all,
I am teaching a Mishpacha at the end of Feb with Purim songs. I'd like to
know what the most popular songs are for this holiday. I will be teaching in
stations this time at about 15 minute intervals/ parents with their
children. k-3rd.
Thanks
