[HANASHIR:16650] Re: "Quality" and the teachings of Danny Maseng

For the record (since this discussion had to do with discerning "quality",
my dear friend Joe Boonin is an eminent musicologist -- on the board of the
Music Library Assn., in fact. For many years he owned a major music
distribution house that sent music to all the major orchestras throughout
the world. Just prior to his retirement, he held a position at the Library
and Museum of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, In NYC. He is one of
those people who can hear 3 notes of a major work of symphonic music and
tell you not only what it is, but who the orchestra and conductor are and
when and where it was recorded. In short, this guy has ears we can all envy.
He knows whereof he speaks. (Then again, we're all moved to tears by our
grandchildren.) :-)
