[HANASHIR:16572] Re: Symphonic band music

Robbi:

I'm a big fan of symphonic band music. Been in a few myself. However, it is not
always easy to find. I doubt there is much out there already arranged for band
(other than the klezmer stuff). Having something arranged is not a bad idea.
Finding the person to do it, is a different story. You can take an orchestral
arrangement and adapt it. However, that is not the best way, as it does not
make the best use of the band instrumentation.

While I know of a number of folks that do arrangements for concert band, you
may do better by contacting the director of bands (yes there are such folks) at
a local college or university. In your area, certainly U Colorado, and CSU
both have good sized band departments. UDenver also may be a good resource
along with Colorado College.

Good luck with this. If you need any more information, just drop me a line.

<DIV>Hi, y'all - </div>
<DIV>I am going to be singing with a 120-piece symphonic band at Carnegie Hall
in June and am looking for arrangements of Jewish material to give to the
conductor. It was suggested that I do one of my pieces, but, being realistic
here - I know I won't be able to write parts for trombone. Or woodwinds. Or
percussion - In other words, I am <STRONG>way </strong>out of my league here.
I have NO CLUE what I'm going to sing. I have some great suggestions as to
where to find arranged music. If I take the bigger leap and want to arrange one
of my pieces, do you know who could do that for me? Of the beautiful stuff
already out there, what pieces do you think would best represent us and our
music? What have you seen performed successfully in this type of setting?</div>
<DIV> </div>
<DIV>Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and help. I'm a nervous
wreck....</div>
