[HANASHIR:16565] RE: Symphonic band music

Robbi - symphonic band or orchestra? That makes a huge difference in
the world of orchestration. My best advice to you would be to get in
touch with Joel Eglash at Transcom as they have a whole area of
orchestrated Jewish music including pieces by Michael Issacson, Ben
Steinberg and other wonderful composers who have had orchestral
arrangements written. Having just finished doing some of this with
the local youth orchestra that I am president of, I wouldn't be much
help this week because our music was all Chanukah based. But Transcom
will have much of what you need. You can peruse everything. I believe
that there are one or two people lurking on this list that will also be
able to help - Burt Zipser & Ethan. You guys out there?
Good luck. Sure sounds exciting and don't forget to give us the date!

Subject: [HANASHIR:16562] Symphonic band music

Hi, y'all -
I am going to be singing with a 120-piece symphonic band at Carnegie
Hall in June and am looking for arrangements of Jewish material to give
to the conductor. It was suggested that I do one of my pieces, but,
being realistic here - I know I won't be able to write parts for
trombone. Or woodwinds. Or percussion - In other words, I am way out of
my league here. I have NO CLUE what I'm going to sing. I have some
great suggestions as to where to find arranged music. If I take the
bigger leap and want to arrange one of my pieces, do you know who could
do that for me? Of the beautiful stuff already out there, what pieces
do you think would best represent us and our music? What have you seen
performed successfully in this type of setting?

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions and help. I'm a nervous
wreck....
knishes,
Robbi Sherwin
