[HANASHIR:16469] Re: music books in the pews

Hi,
I put together ( about three years ago) a High Holiday Songbook for
my congregation. It contains the music for all the songs we do as a
congregation during the High Holidays. I even took choral pieces like
Steve Richard's R'tsei and Max Janowski's Avinu Malkeinu and Sim Shalom
and transcribed them down to one ( yes, one) page of music for the
songbook. I had to contact Transcontinental Music, the Cantors'
Assembly, Soundswrite Productions and various individual composers--all
of whom were very gracious giving me permission to do the songbook. You
need to ask in writing and they will respond in writing, but, although
it took some time, everyone ( mostly) was very gracious in granting
copywrite permission to do this project. It's really very simple to do
and anyone can do this. It's not hard to stay within the law--really.
My songbook was strictly for congregational use. If you would like, I
would be happy to send you a copy for perusal. Hope this post helps,
Marsha
