<Is there a way that we could possibly expand this listserve, or better yet
start a "bulletin board" on one of the websites like totshabbat, where
musicians could post lyrics with a melody for someone else to put chords to,
where "finished" songs could be posted for someone else to sing and then put
onto the website so that they could be shared?>
Hi, Joy! I am very interested in the question you posed. I too am a
songwriter with pretty basic guitar skills and an average singing voice.
However, I became friends with a song-leader at our synagogue, and she and I
started developing my music. Then she introduced me to an a-capella singer
she knew, and the three of us decided to collaborate... we call ourselves
Shir Synergy... and are actually recording my songs! So far, they're just
on our website (http://shirsynergy.home.comcast.net), but it is truly
amazing what her guitar skills and his harmony ideas have done to my pretty
basic songs. Turns out, I'm actually getting better on the guitar and have
developed my voice with a little coaching. And go figure, I'm now teaching
music at a religious school and even doing a little performing of my music
at our synagogue. Just to give you a sense of how far I've come... when I
was in junior high school, I learned to play the guitar, but stopped after a
year because I just couldn't sing. Well, 25 or so years later, I picked it
up again, and voila! Here I am... hoping to record a cd with these songs!
Seems bizarre to me, but here I am. Best of luck to you! I'll be
interested to see what people suggest on the list.
