[HANASHIR:16059] Re: Minchag for arrangements

Regarding Ellen's question about charging for arrangements: The person
who owns the music (Debbie) has control over it. It is generally
considered good form to get authorization from her to distribute
anything (even for free). I would suggest, Ellen, that you submit your
arrangement to her or her publisher for approval and permission to
distribute. This came up about a year ago on another list, when a
well-known arranger made available a lovely setting of someone else's
song. The "someone else" then demanded payment ($15) from all who had
received the arrangement, and sent a cease-and-desist letter from his
attorney to the arranger. I encourage you all, in support of our
gifted songwriters and musicians, to follow protocol when distributing
any music.
