[HANASHIR:15989] Re: song background information

Abby,
I think that is why I have been stumped , because at least the Israelis I've
asked around, including preschool, haven't heard of it. I've also sent out a
message on Habonet, the list for Habonim, which is where I had learned it from
to see if any of my madrichim are on and can help too. I'll let you know the
results. It's interesting to hear that it was at other camps too though. I'll
try to get the music written out which I need to do anyways for the piano
accompanist.

I know the song -- learned it from an Israeli preschool teacher at some
Reform camp somewhere in life -- maybe on an educator's retreat? My guess is
that it comes from the Israeli preschool music scene. WIsh I could tell you
more.

    Hi,
I am the music teacher at the Hebrew Day School in Ann Arbor and am looking
for some information about a song I am using for our music festival in December
with the first grade students. I had learned it in the 60's at Habonim Camp
Tavor and it is so simple and catchy I don't know why I can't find it anywhere
and no one I ask has heard of it. So I am sending it out here and am courious
whether someone else on this list might know it and can shed some light as to
where it came from. The hand motions and jumps that I remember that go with it
make it into a kids couples dance too. Here's the words-

Histovevu el hahar zug el zug (3x)
    Yadayim l'malah ul'histovev
Yadayim al einayim (or any body part) zug el zug (3x)
    yadayim l'malah u'lhistovev

    thanks for your help,
     Bev Warshai
