[HANASHIR:15749] RE: need some help for fire victims.

Reva,

I grew up out there and I have cousins who have been evacuated from Rancho
Cucamonga and Arrowhead. I've been talking to my mom in Woodland Hills a lot
also.

Musically, what comes to mind for me is Laura Berkson's Esa Einai. Thinking
through the text---it may be a little raw, "I lift up my eyes unto the
hills......From where will my help come?"---but in juxtaposition with other
words of comfort it acknowledges our vulnerability and so perhaps has a
place in that service. Words that we often use as metaphor are reality in
this situation. It's available in the ACC Cantor's Manual and possibly
directly from Laura.

Pieces out of the R'fuah Sh'leimah anthology that would work are:

Oh Guide My Steps - Debrah Winston

Elohei Oz -as remembered by Rahel Musleah

                Ruach Elohim - Lisa Levine

There are others, but I'm guessing you're not going to have time to go
through this whole book and these would provide a mix of dynamics, a range
of emotions that need to be expressed in this kind of a service. If I can
help you by phone, please give me a call (412)366-6154.

Hi all. It's not often that i write in, but i need some help. I'm in the
middle of the biggest fire storms ever to hit southern CA. The devastation
here in our community is beyond belief. We already have many that have lost
homes in the jewish community as well as our own community, and they are
not even close to being put out. Last night the evacuations continued as
more of my friends moved out of their homes. They said that the fires in the
mountains are only five percent contained, and with the winds and the
destruction from the lack of water( over a million dead trees in the
mountains due to the beetles), it's just going up like tinder. Sadly, most
of these fires are arson related. ( one of my clients was a witness to two
men throwing flares out in san Bernardino....) On saturday night we
evacuated the synagogue, took the torahs, and ran as we watched hot embers
raining on our roof there.
We would love to do a healing service this friday night for the
congregation. Other than the Mishaberach, I don't know a ton of healing
music, actually, I don't know any..... Does anyone out there have any
ideas for a healing service? i'd so much appreciate it. our spirits are so
down out here.
  thanks a bunch.
