[HANASHIR:15506] Reflux

Hi all...
I, too, was plagued every spring and fall with a mysterious, seemingly benign,
"hicking" cough that would result in the COMPLETE loss of my voice sometimes
within just an hour or so. After realizing this seasonal pattern, and not
having suffered with ANY allergies, heartburn or reflux in the past, Sharon
Steinberg (THANK YOU Dahlink!) recommended me see an ENT she knew that
specialized in singers. The diagnosis was seasonal allergy-induced reflux.
Some acid was burning some of my vocal chords...without any other symptom other
than that "hicky" cough. I have taken Prilosec ever since and, thankfully,
have not had another episode.

I hope this helps others!

I constanly had throat troubles and took allergy meds and guifenisen for
years. Then I kept losing my singing voice and I wasn't sick and allergies
weren't the issue. Come to find out it was reflux! I tried different meds (and
went to a gastroenterologist) and now that I take Nexium I'm doing great. I had
acid in my throat and that was causing the problem. I feel like a different
singer!
So how many of you watched 60 Minutes the other nite?? I did and I was
quite impressed. Even Dr. Treffert---the world's expert on savants, approved.
(they at least quoted him but didn't give him credit). Oh well. The boys that
played piano, Rex and Derrick, were amazing as usual. Hope you got to see it.
