It sure can't hurt.

Here's my non-medical approach to laryngitis: An apple a day! I know it
sounds trite but for me it works. I read somewhere (maybe in an asthma
magazine or article) that the vitamins and nutrients in an apple keep things
constant in your throat and lungs. My son has asthma and he and I both have
an apple a day to maintain our upper respiratory health. This does not
replace his inhalers but we find that it does keep things in check. Maybe
it has to do with keeping down a post-nasal drip, I don't know. It is not a
quick fix for laryngitis but if you maintain eating an apple a day in the
weeks prior to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, it might help. Plus it tastes
good and there are no negative side effects.

Using prednisone for laryngitis can have its drawbacks. The last time I had
laryngitis and really needed my voice for singing, I went on it, too, as I'd
done before. But this time it allowed other problems to develop -- namely,
an ear infection. So I paid for having a voice on Shabbat by having an
earache the next day plus additional doctor's bills....

Life's really not fair, is it?

Hello fellow singers,
If you are suffering from laryngitis, and getting very close to the
holidays, I go to my ENT, and get on a 6 day pack of prednisone. It works
wonders, and as long as this is not used alot, there will not be any
long-lasting side effects. I have had to on this "stuff" for many a
holiday, since September and October are very bad allergy times for me. It
is the wonder drug for singers!!!!!!! Francine Berg Syracuse
