[HANASHIR:15464] Re: how much Hebrew? in what form?

Hi Laura,

when I changed carrers, I already knew how to read Hebrew, but if your friend
does not, that is a good place to start. Many of the Hebrew courses in colleges
have that as a requirement, as well as Hebrew writing. In other words, many of
these courses are not 100% ulpan. Also, I taught myself the knowedge of
liturigcal and Torah Hebrew which in most cases is diffeent than everyday
conversational Hebrew. Although I cannot translate every single word in the
prayers that I lead for my congregation (hoepfully one day I will), I have
studies the concept and meaning of all the prayers so I can chant them with
cavanah.

I hope this helps some.

I wish your friend much success.
